David Dennis seems to get the best out of Rathcor with a win and a 2nd from 4 rides (the other 2 just off the money) and won comfortably at Chepstow with a clean round of jumping so will have to be at his best with these difficult fences. This is normally a good stamina test and this winning pointer should stay having run well over 21fl at Towcester. He was totally outclassed latest and found only Robert Alners Vodka Brook (beaten Fav yesterday) too good on penultimate start when accounting for a few of todays contenders.
Alner runs Portland Bill today, who hasnt set the world alight chasing on recent starts though did account for some good scalps at Exeter with Betfair Chase winner Snoopy Loopy (now rated 168) well in arrears, but was previously a smart looking recruit for the smaller obstacles.
Since going mostly chasing in the last 2 seasons he could have needed the recent pipe opener at Wincanton with it being his 1st hurdle race since his one last february, and has since been dropped 2lb by the handicapper. I dont know much about the conditional Jockey, but he claims a valuable 7lb and having been given 4 rides for the yard in the last fortnight, the Alners obviously have faith in his ability for this contest.
Gala Evening won this in 2007 and is now 5lb higher but should not be discounted either.
Decently priced @ 33/1 for an E/Way punt but as I believe he can win, I am on the nose!
Gala Evening wins @ 16/1
