Summary of Results

Persistent rain came mid afternoon but the going was still riding good/firm according to track reports etc.
The drift to 18's on Betfair before the race looked ominous but no excuses really as Mandhooma appeared beaten fair and square?? !

Cut Glass

Master Sebastian was never in the hunt so it made no difference to the r/f/c wager and Stagecoach Diamond (more cut glass than diamond) just about halved in odds from the early 9/1 going off 5/1 second favourite, but took a fall at the 4th fence so will never know how he would have fared so the main bet for the day also went down with him.

Was out early this afternoon so with no opportunity to trade on the exchanges i had placed 2 small stake doubles & e/w treble bets which resulted in 2 (same) winners on one, and all 3 winners coming in on the other of them so that saved the day somewhat.

Think I should go out more often!

Doyle or Doylem

Didn't get matched on Pha Mai Blue which is some consolation since Cornus wasn't making any further progress under James Doyle from the final bend.
Played a couple of small stakes in running on the final 2nd & 3rd place runners which were running well at the turn for home, although beaten just a short head and a nose were still losers.
Cornus was beaten around just under 2 length to finish in 6th place but may as well have been last when on to win!
Towy Boy, held up under Richard Hughes was travelling like a dream, and never once got a clear run and looked to finish on the bridle until the last 100 yards or so when finding some space and the race was all but over. Definitely one to look for in a similar race soon!!

Summary of Results

Wise Dennis was kept wide all the way to keep out the kick back, but never honestly looked like he was going anyhow and finished stone cold last.
One thing for sure is I am consistant!!

Month End

A complete blow out at the end of the month and updating the figures will not be enjoyable.
Looking to going back to researching forecasts as a fresh start in October. I feel going back to my original research methods is the way forward to recoup some losses and to gain much needed profit.

Updated P&L ........minus 14.5 points September

Plus 83.16 since March

Summary of Analysis & Evening Update

LATE UPDATE .......

KEMPTON 6.15 ZAIF 1 pt E/W @ 33/1 Gen

Once rated in the mid 80's could make mincemeat of these on only his 2nd all weather start.
Ran wide last time here in a class4 (0-85) and lost his position, and ridden by a senior jockey this time around.

Is 10lb lower than the start of the season and taking a 2 grade drop in class, his first time in a (0-65) class6.
The 33/1 on offer looks generous

ZAIF 1pt E/W @ 33/1

Too late and came wide again!

minus 2 points

FULL RESULT>>

Jamie Spencer, not my favourite jockey to start with, again exaggerated the waiting tactics on Dhaular Dhar when held up out the back he left himself with no room to get into it. In a 28 runner race it's definitely not the best race he has ridden!!
Cant complain with the ride on Big Noise, as the first 7 home were all drawn high and he was the first home from the lower berths and just wasn't in a position to be competitive.

I am still really pi**ed off with my research for today though.
Hitchens who we were on in the Great St Wilfred 5 weeks ago Wins @ 7/1 today.
Advanced was also in that Redcar race before chasing home Jimmy Styles (Jimmy Styles also came from that contest ) in the Gold Cup, and Advanced steps up on that for his first win at 7 furlongs to come home @ 33/1.
Green Manalishi who we were on also around 5 weeks ago, has twice placed at 50/1, 16/1 before going in today @ 4/1.

Seems I can still pick them out coming into form but miss them on the day they are winning!

Summary of Results

Bonnie Charlie ran to form and was only beaten just over 1/2 a length so not too many complaints on that score, but as far as the lack of any return and the loss incurred he may as well have been last!!
I feel the need for a bit of research into some f/casts as in earlier in the season is needed to boost the betting bank!

Summary of Results

Normally Hindu Kush is a front runner and Adrian Nicolls had him out the back all the way from the off. Maybe they were trying different tactics today or perhaps this has been a training exercise for his entry in the Cesarewitch next month, otherwise Hindu Kush wasn't once asked to be put into the race until the home straight to end up around 6 length behind the winner, but still finished LAST.
I hold my hands up when I make a poor call but the way this was ridden today went against all his other form and was a disappointing run.

Storm Of Applause has always looked a hard ride but made Rhys Flint work real hard today just to keep in touch and get into the places. Shame he wasn't working overtime on it as with a 2 point loss today some overtime is needed to get back on the winning trail.

Summary of Results

Considering Solar Spirit had Sunrise Safari 4 length adrift in May with today's winner Baldemar another 9 length behind on near equal terms, and finish near last today says it all for the advantage of the low numbers.
The 1st seven horses home all came from the low stalls in the Bronze Cup, it looks like the far side will be the place to be drawn tomorrow.
Even Hotham chose to come stands side with the higher drawn and though lost by just over around 3 length, not even a sniff of the Bronze medal for the runners today.
All credit to Tom Segal who had the 1st home from both sides of the track in his 2 selections today!

Summary of Results

Luke Morris, a more experienced jockey and a winner here on this horse should have boosted his chances, yet it went pear shaped from the start when Stamford Blue completely missed the break.
If we at least got a run for the money to place at least it would have been more bearable, but it was all over from there on in as he always struggled to catch up the pace afterward and wasn't hard ridden in the last furlong when his chance was well gone.
Will be one to keep an eye on in a similar or lower grade, as he has dropped down to a winning mark and could possibly get into a 0-60 event soon after this dismal run.

Summary of Results

Doris's Gift's participation was looking ominous when he was getting a few smacks with the whip just to take part.

Richie McGrath had to work hard from the off to keep him running never mind get competitive and he just got further behind as he approached each fence and was duly pulled up.

A shocking display and the fingers are still burning badly.

Summary of Results / Too hard to swallow

The 'First Swallow' looked to be a value selection @ 16/1 when going off @ 17/2 at the start, just over half the early advised odds.
However, I didn't see or hear the race so can't comment on the running, and no value in a loser so he may as well have been last!
No taking it away from winner The Bear, as this ground obviously suits and he was running off much higher in the past.
He upheld the form with Sunley Sovereign from last time out and the first 3 home were all drawn low knocking the statistics for favouring the high numbers.

A 2 point loss which is the harder to swallow.

Summary of Analysis & Evening Update

No Evening Selection's

Opus Maximus getting weight from the field would no doubt have helped his cause but from the widest draw has again ran well today at Chester to finish an honourable 3rd. The decision to go against a win bet was an obvious one to take but the place only suggested has payed dividends to those taking the lowish odds.

Macdillion has ran another good race at Sandown to finish 4th and was only 2 length away at the line. As the race was run slightly faster than standard, he could come on for this run after the 6 week break as it looked a good effort against some battle hardened sprinters.

I was surprised Johannes went off at the 7/2 as he won quite comfortably, and opening on course at 9/2 I feel would have been a worthy bet.
When I looked early morning he was trading around the 3/1 mark so I slipped up there.
Bel Cantor went far side, which he did last season and Thebes went with him and finished 2nd best of those 2 runners as the stands side had a definite advantage.
The others from the Analysis, Red Cape got the 2nd spot and Atlantic Story did run better than his 12/1 SP which I thought he might when just behind in 3rd.

I feel I read the races I looked at quite well today, but made the correct decision not to get involved as the best from the analysis would have been the place suggested on Opus Maximus at restrictive odds but those of you who played at least got a return :)

Summary of Results

I thought after the race the jockey had made a right horlicks on Penang Princess by staying on the far rail.
After watching the 2nd contest however, where Dream Lodge ran a great race to finish 2nd making all his running there, when the remainder had stayed centre track until the winner joined him on the rail, that perhaps the going is slower there and it has cost Dream Lodge the difference between being the winner or collecting his 2nd prize.
Regardless a 2 point loss gives me reason to think that Penang Princess was hindered by the slower side of the track, or that she just ran like sh*te and that my analysis wasn't much better!

No Evening Selection's

One to watch … Wolverhampton 8.15 … Wind Flow @ 12/1

Reason's against ....... last 3 runs have been way off his best efforts.
Trainer no winners in last 2 weeks and only 8 winnners from 100 runners this season.

Reason's For ....... Won here off this mark when last in the winners enclosure in a Class 2 Handicap.
Beat an 86 rated rival in that race and they were well clear of the rest of which the 6 length 3rd place was going for a 4 timer.
Ran well since off marks in the mid 70's until his last 3 outings all at Kempton.
Did run a good race off 75 in a 0-85 event on his last run here in May behind the 85 rated Mezzanisi who finished 3rd his only start since behind winner Musef (rated 95) and 2nd place and subsequent winner Red Merlin (92) who now both run off higher .
Visor back on after trying cheek pieces last time and a return to this venue from what looks a decent draw for his front running style should suit.

Daryll Holland a good booking for a front runner and drops back into this 0-70 Class 5 off his last winning mark.

Not an account bet but the reasons are there for my thinking if you wish to get involved!

Summary of Results

Scuffle ran her race but would have perhaps done a little better had she been ridden more positively.
With only 13lb between the field she has ran a decent race on her 2nd outing after the break. A nose was the distance she was out the place money and scuttles the account for a 2 point loss.

Summary of Results York Ebor

Deutschland was strongly fancied by someone before the off, as after they opened at the advised odds @ 20/1 on course, a large E/W wager saw him go off @ 14/1.
He was running a great race and making inroads, until it was I believe Manyriverstocross or Warringah dropped back in front of him and the Racing Post write up says it all .......

{mid-division, headway over 4f out, pushed along over 3f out, running on when not clear run inside final furlong, never able to challenge and eased}

beaten 2 length .......

A 2 point loss and gutted that we didn't get the clear run as I thought we were going to collect at least the place at worst.

Stablemate Sesenta took the honours so a good day for the Mullins Camp and also for the 5lb claiming jockey who got a great run through and I believe was having his 1st ride (in England) for the Yard.
If so, undoubtedly he will be getting the leg up on horses from other top yards in the future.

I have some personal business to attend to tommorrow so IF no early posts before 10 a.m. there will be no selections tommorrow!!

Tuesday, 18 August 2009

Summary of Results

Even though there was only 3 length between the winner and the Two Selections, it accounts for a 3 point loss and not a good start to the Ebor Meeting.
Another look at the race and I admit it was a bad read on my part but apologies are no good after the event.
More good action tommorrow so I will have to pull up the socks and hands off c***s and keep the mind on the job!

Summary of Results / Bond City

I underestimated Jaconet slightly being raised 16lb for her last win here but also knew she was the one for Bond City to beat. Just in front of Bond city last time out, she upheld the form on the same terms by a similar margin.
Lucivious took up the early running from the inside stall and Bond City followed him through the contest until the home turn.
Jaconet, from the box next door also followed through and went to the right up the middle of the track and held off the late challenge from Prescription, with Bond City getting the run up the inside and holding on for third.
Nothing else looked like landing a blow.
Gladly I got the selection read right and though investing 2 points to get a 7.25 point profit I believe it was the value call in the race.

The Cardinal Sins/Summary of Results

The Cardinal Sins

Finnegan McCool was ridden completely different to last time when making the running.
His jockey made the Cardinal Sin in my opinion, having been prominent last time he held him up out the back, making his challenge coming wide round the field and though he was never going to win from there, he found Swinbrook too good to even get the place.
I got Triple Dream & Kyllachy Storm correct in that they would go close to each other.
Too close considering they were 1st N 2nd

I knew Digital wasn't a particularly good yardstick as he is so inconsistent but it swayed my judgement if I'm honest as he was better in at the weights than King Of Swords so I had to take K.O.S. on.

So Cardinal Sin number 2 was my own doing as King Of Swords, given as a winner at a nice price last week got the race ran in the same vain as that success.
The aids he wore last time appeared to work a 2nd time and he got the race run to suit.
Even though a loss on the day, I think my read on this race was better than some over the past months as Darcy's Pride took up the running from his inside berth and Compton Spirit followed him throughout the contest where he made his move too late I thought.

Andrew Elliot gave the winner the perfect ride to be honest as when making his challenge to the leader Darcy's Pride, (who wasn't going to move off the rail) he kept in Compton Spirit who had to switch round behind King Of Swords to make his final challenge.
The Racing Post got the run more to the mark with their synopsis "Chased leaders, not clear run and switched right approaching final furlong, stayed on well inside final furlong, finished strongly" so we could call it an unlucky run.
All too late as far as we are concerned but Compton Spirit went off @ 5/1 so even accounting for there would have been a rule4 with the later withdrawal of Select Committee, the early 9/1 was the value selection.
