AYR 4.10 SOLAR SPIRIT 1 PT E/W @ 18/1 (Gen) HOTHAM 1 pt @ 12/1 Gen
A real tight handicap with only 11lb between the field.
Luck in running and the draw will surely play a part in the outcome so hopefully we are on the right one after some dismal results lately.
The drying ground should suit Solar Spirit who only has the one win (good/soft) to his resume but ran 3 promising races in May on good fast going.
The 1st he ran within half a length to High Standing when 2 length clear of the rest.
High Standing went on to win his next 3, the first a Class2 h/cap, then the Wokingham beating 2007 Gold Cup winner in the process, and then a group3 to run up to a mark 20lb higher, before a respectable 3rd to Dandy Nicholls Regal Parade in the (group 1) Betfred Sprint Cup.
Running anywhere near to that effort should see Solar Spirit thereabouts.
Has been apprentice ridden 2 of last 3 starts where he has had soft going, and meets Haajes on 8lb better than a strong finishing run at York where he missed the break.
Should go well providing he doesn't lose the advantage of the far rail draw.
Hotham, a winner here off 3lb lower on Heavy ground has been bang up there with his conquerors since mid summer and is holding his form well.
Has 7lb in hand of Silver Wind from last time out. Rasaman looked the unlucky loser that day yet has to concede 8lb (including jockeys claim) to Noel Wilson's runner.
He also had him beat at Musselburgh last October when giving him 4lb so the weights in the favour of Hotham and every pound here will help.
