THIRSK 3.05 .. VIOLENT VELOCITY @ 13/2
Violent Velocity has needed an outing in the past so the warm up at Catterick should have freshened him up.
He ran in the Hornby h/cap over 7fl on this card last season and was staying on.
The 2nd from that event 'Yes One' (rated 73) won his very next outing here beating horses rated 80 plus, as did the winner 'Spinning' who also won his next outing off 76 in a Newcastle H/cap off joint top weight off a mark of 76 confirming the form as good.
V.V then came out a few weeks later here and won over this trip beating the Michael Dodd's 75 rated Hiccups (himself regularly winning/placed off 75 against higher rated rivals) in the process.
M.Dodds runs Society Music, who has won here off higher but that was a fillies event and the usual chiekpieces are missing, and although normally needing her 1st outing she should go well.
Glenridding likes to force the issue and is handily drawn to do so, and is sure to run well and ensure a true pace, but off top weight looks vunerable and his winning has been on the All Weather/softer going here, and has twice been beaten by the lower rated Tanforan (non runner)
Shampagne Sands beat the selection here last Autumn but is now 2lb worse and Violent Velocity had the 1 box and was trapped behind until the home straight.
The Pat Eddery trained Resentful Angel, given the strength of connections (Tabor & Magnier) could be a danger as she went well last time out in December over further and drops back in trip, but backing early season fillies has never been profitable in the past.
From winning here last July, Violent Velocity ran last years winner 'Blue Spinnaker (OR 77)' close at York his very next outing off 7lb higher than today with many rated around the 90 mark behind.
Ok that was on much softer going but he has his prefered ground today, so granted a smooth passage in the race and being 2lb lower than his last win here has a lot in his favour.
Violent Velocity ... 1 pt win
Shampagne Sands ... 1/2 pt rev F/C
minus 2 points

AYR 4.00 ... MISTER McGOLDRICK @ 9/1
Last Years (and 2007) winner of this race Three Mirrors was rated 138 and had finished 8 & 1/2 length beind Mr Mcgoldrick earlier that season at Wetherby.
Ferdy Merphy sends Watch My Back to attempt the treble in this event, and gain revenge on the Sue Smith runner but this one doesn't look in the same league.
Mr MCG is getting on at 10 Yr Old but is a group winner in his time, and stablemate Daldini will not be hanging around so this will be fast run with other pace angles in the race.
His last 2 outings in the Totesport & the Ryanair chase he was surely outclassed taking on horses rated up to 24lb superior and this more his level, but they were strongly run events and he should find this easier.
1 pt win
3rd...minus 1 point
