A tricky looking race to fathom out.
Apotheosis looks short in the market @ 4/1 for what he has acheived so far taking on what looks slightly better company, and could be better than his mark if progressing but only beat 60 plus rated rivals at best and looks one to take on.
The one to have taken our attention is the Sue Layman trained New Beginning.
He won a Wolverhampton maiden in good style under today's jockey in his early years and was given a mark in the high 70's.
Then on his 1st turf run as a 3Yr Old he won/dead heated a Leicester Class 3 Hcap with the Mark Johnson hattrick seeking Zar Solitario (not seen since that year) with the Clive Brittain trained Sahrati just behind (in 3rd) and 8 length clear of the (80 rated) Eglevski.
Sahrati has gone on to win off the high 80's in class 2 h/caps and run consistently off that rating since.
New Beginning hasn't been given much slack since then, and though not having won since that Leicester event, has ran well for the most part last year on either unsuitable softer going or when not picking up on the All Weather. His rating has dropped 24lb since the start of last year and he looks to have a real chance of winning today if fit enough after the 8 week break. Considering he was taking on the likes of Pipedreamer (last won off 117) as 3 Yr Old where he was just behind 81 rated El Dececy (3rd to yesterday's winning selctions) gives hope he is well in here receiving weight from all but 2 of this field, and all his best has been on quick ground.
From what is usually the favoured low drawn stalls, King's Revenge from the Alan King stable will be popular being fit from Hurdles but his last flat win 3 Years ago for Tim Easterby was off a low weight and here he gives weight all round.
Le Corvee (formerly with Alan King) is getting back to a winning mark and looks big @ 33/1 yet on past evidence has needed a run, but a place is quite possible in this line up and looks well berthed in stall 4.
Gala Sunday likes fast going but was last in this last year and looks held on form by Princewallywogan, who won 3 times for us last season and a 3rd place @ 100/1 on his 2nd run back. He could figure as he has a better strike rate at this trip than most in the field and looks to have a decent draw in 2.
Intersky Charm (badly drawn in 16) did win 1st time up last season on the sand, but has 9lb to find with New Beginning from their last encounter on Heavy going, and though in front of him at York last May, New beginning has a 10lb turn around in the weights from that contest too and I cant see past the selection for the win.
New Beginning 1 point win
Intersky Charm ... 1/4 point Rev F/C
Le Corvee ... 1/2 point F/C
3rd .... 2 point loss
