NEWMARKET RACES

NEWMARKET 4.05 ... MUSAALEM ... ORPENINDEED

Jimmy Styles and Striking Spirit will both be popular after their latest come together at Ascot, and though Jimmy Styles is 4lb better here Striking Spirit has the better option for imrovement with 2 wins from only 4 starts.
Ebraam is yet to win on turf and Mac Gille Eoin looks held at the weights by Thebes.
Thebes has ran cracking races on his last 3 starts but always seems to wain in the last furlong so could struggle against those with a bit more stamina.
Silver Wind fits one with that profile from his all weather exploits and has a 10lb pull with Striking Spirit but is another to have struggled on turf at this level and was well behind Orpenindeed at Great Leighs in November.
Everymanforhimself was 3rd in this last season but returns off 5lb higher in what looks a stronger renewal and has 5lb to find with Musaalem.
Abraham Lincoln, the other nicholl's runner looks interesting, but off top weight he will have win this to prove up to both his Golden Jubilee Stakes and Wokingham entry's, and the outcome of this will more than likely determine his final target on the 20th June.
A line of from through Royal Rock, who beat Abe Lincoln by 4 length on equal terms on his penultimate run brings me to Orpenindeed.
Orpenindeed just failed by 1/2 length to Royal Rock at Yarmouth last April with last years winner of this, Ajigolo, 6.5 length in arrears.
He has been putting in some sterling front running efforts on the all weather and just failing to see out the 7fl so this drop in trip should be no problem.
He has Musaalem to beat in my opinion, who has won 1st time out the last 2 seasons and the stable are bang in form, but he was giving Musaalem 8lb and gets an 11lb advantage over Musaalem from their encounter last June for a 3.75 deficit so looks to have a great chance to turn the tables today with the vast weight advantage and at 20/1 looks a value E/W selection.

Orpenindeed 1/2 pt E/W @ 20/1
Orpenindeed & Musaalem 1/2 pt Rev/F/C

plus 1/2 point

  1. Hi there!

  2. Hi Rob,
Most bookmakers take these E/W bets..
The E/W is for Each Way ...So 1/2 point to win and 1/2 point to place.
Similar to win & place betting on the exchanges!
If trading win & place betting on the exchanges you could consider splitting stakes to percentages IE: 30% win ..70% place

    F/C is for forecast betting.
IE: First 2 horses past the line in the correct order.
Or if Rev F/C as in the race above the first 2 past the line in any order!
I think betfair trade on certain races each day for F/C betting but I prefer Bookmakers for this type of bet!
Hope this helps clear things a bit but if not drop me a line!
    Regards Anthony

  6. Yes that is correct Rob,
But check the exchange prices as sometimes you can get a better place price with bookmakers and Vice Versa!
For example if a horse is 20/1 you are guaranteed between 4/1 and 5/1 a place with conventional bookmakers if you take the odds they offer.
Whereas on the exchanges you may achieve 3/1 or 6/1 a place depending on the liquidity of the market.
It plays to shop around and check the prices against each other!
