Saturdays Selections

GOODWOOD 2.20 ... SEAMUS SHINDIG @ 12/1
Ran a decent enough race 1st time back behind recent winner Jimmy Styles who won in good fashion to a mark of 96.
Won on his 2nd outing last season here albeit in a lesser contest, but then went on to win another 2 off close to this rating and was less than a length behind Osiris Way on his final run of the year.
He has a 7lb pull for that small deficit and should also uphold the form with the 4th, Rash Judgement on 2lb better with Amy Scott claiming another 7lb.
Can go up with the pace and will get a strong one to chase with Peter Island in the contest.
Of the younger generation Shifting Star has the better form on quicker going as Drawnfromthepast looks held by Major Easy from their Windsor Castle encounter.

YORK 3.45 ... FLASH McGAHON @ 33/1
Dandy Nicholl's runs 2 in this and his supposed second string looks well in for this if retaining the form he showed as a 3Yr Old when running off 5lb higher taking on horses rated up to 110.
Can go well fresh and the Sprint King can have one ready.
He ran against last year's winner Masta Plasta (104) in the Rockingham Handicap and was only 3 length behind off a mark 3lb higher than today with 9St 5lb on his back.
Today running off 5lb below his peak when chasing home stable star Tax Free (110) in a Listed contest as a 3Yr Old, he looks attractively weighted with only 8St 7lb to carry.
Of the 3 contenders from last year Ishetoo comes out better than River Falcon and Siren's Gift when taking into account Jamie Kyne's 7lb claim and he would rate a bigger threat than stablemate Buachaill Dona.
International Debut could also figure off 3lb higher than his last win here but any interruption in his run will see him done for.
Kevin Ryan also has a nice recruit (formerly with David Watchman) in Peak District and off 8St 2lb could be thereabouts, but is normally held up/slowly away and won't have any room for mistakes off this mark.

HAYDOCK 4.45 ... FAASEL @ 25/1
Last flat win came as a 3Yr Old in a 12fl Handicap at Naas taking on his elders and has been jumping since. Seems to have been around for ever but is only 8Yrs Old so is far from done with yet.
Nicky Richards doesn't run many on the flat and Faasel should be fit from a recent run over the sticks where he has been highly tried in that discipline.
Returns 9lb lower for this return to the level, and having the stamina for 3 miles should see out this trip well enough here as he finished 2nd in the September Handicap at the Curragh as a 3Yr Old.
Yard just failed to score with 'That'll Do Nicely' in a 14 furlong Musselburgh Class4 yesterday so the horses seem to be rude health and never to be underestimated.

TO WATCH TONIGHT.......

LINGFIELD 8.10 CARLITOS SPIRIT @ 10/1
IVORY LACE @ 7/1

Ivory Lace has the ability to win this and her come from behind style of running should be seen to better effect on this straight track than last time where she collected for us if Frank Spencer doesn't leave it too late.
I am reluctant to put this forward as a strong selection with him on board as Carlito's Spirit also fits the profile of a winner waiting to happen after not getting the best of runs last time out.
He has the trainers capable son in the saddle and won here comfortably last May off 3lb higher.
Both handle good/firm going and I cant really split the 2 so will leave the race and start fresh next month!

  1. What a bad ride shindig was given. Held back for all the race! On the furlong pole the horse had the gap but the jockey held him back. Unbelievable!

  2. Bad enough when I get it wrong, but even more Annoying when the Jockey makes an error...
Will be winning soon but probably at 7/4 to 9/4 next time......
