NEWMARKET 5.30 HABSHAN @ 1 pt @ 14/1 Ladbokes, Coral, WillHill, Bet365
Turning Top, Cannongate and Mujood are the most likely to make the pace where most are hold up horses, and this race could be ran similar to last years contest.
When we backed Mujood to win at Goodwood in May, Marajaa gave him a close run and may better that effort if ridden closer to the pace, even accounting for the fact he is 2lb higher than Mujood here.
Marajaa won as he liked last time out and even though hit with a 6lb penalty, he meets Kinsya only 3lb worse and should have the beating of him if repeating that effort on what will be slower going today.
He looks held on form by Last Three Minutes from their last encounter and I expect him to come out the better of the 2 as he was going the better when never getting a clear run.
He is 1lb lower than on his seasonal debut last year when chasing home the selection on soft going, and at the revised weights (3lb better) he could struggle to make up the 6 length deficit he was beaten but should get closer having a few runs under the belt this time.
Habshan won this last season off 2lb lower by 1.25 length against some in form and recent winners, and has won 4 out of the past 5 years in July with 6 of his 7 success' in this month!!
He ran a good race here in May when beaten by 2 higher rated horses (who had dropped between 7lb & 13lb respectively in the ratings from 102) in a better contest than this.
Last time out on firm going he missed the break and has a 5lb pull with Mujood from that contest and the going will suit him the better of the two here.
No doubt the trainer will have had this as his target and Alan Munro has 1 win and a 2nd place on only 2 previous rides on the gelding.
All looks in place for a strong run and a repeat of last seasons win!
Habshan 1 point win
Marajaa 1/2 pt F/C
minus 1.5 points
