Monday August 31st Selections

CHEPSTOW 4.25 STANLEY GOODSPEED 1 pt @ 12/1 Bet365 11/1 WillHill, Betfred

This was a selection back in May when returning form a All Weather campaign over the winter. My assessment then was he needed a step up in trip and a drop in class and today he gets both!
Thinking he was capable (off 77) in that class4 in May, he must have a better chance here as he drops into a Class 6 for the 1st ever time (off 64) today.
Had beaten Knot In Wood as a 3Yr Old off 18lb higher in the ratings and though to win since this is his easiest opportunity yet.
Would have found the heavy going against him last time and had also found the mile trip too far his only other previous try on grass.
Normally slowly away so this 7fl should be better than his customary 6fl where he has been outrun as he gets going late.
Hayley Turner up for the 1st time and running off his lowest ever handicap mark has his best chance for a while.

RIPON 4.10 BENANDONNER 1 pt @ 20/1 Bet365, S.James

Interesting that trainer Richard Fahey uses the claiming jockey here for this £12,000 race where Paul Hanagan rides in a stakes race for £7,000 at Epsom.
Benandonner won his only start here in June in the Director's Cup off 2lb lower, and meets City Of The King's and Exit Smiling at better weights from that event, and also last years winner Osteopathic Remedy on 7lb better (with Jockeys claim) than their last encounter on soft going at Newcastle.
Has been taking on some of the best handicappers in recent starts and 8 furlongs looks his ideal trip.

Benandonner 1 pt @ 20/1

To Watch ......

CHEPSTOW 5.35 FERN HOUSE
Ran from 21lb out the handicap last time in a class3 h/cap. His penultimate run was much better in this class and could surprise here at a nice price!

EPSOM 4.55 THE WITCH DOCTOR
Drops in class and should go close if not winning!
