Saturdays Selections

BANGOR ON DEE 3.20 ... KILLARD POINT @ 12/1
Caroline Bailey has beeen running her gelding predominantly over 3 miles over which came his only success here.
His consistency means he gets no respite from the h/capper where he has hovered around this mark since.
With forecast rain at the course the drop in trip shouldn't be a problem as he won at Lingfield over this distance under a positive ride from this Jockey.
The trainer has a good idea of what she is up against with Buckland Gold, who beat her Prince Des Marais (rated 105) last time out.
The one to watch for is the Jonjo O'Niell trained 'On You Go' who returns from an 18 month absence and is sure to have been well schooled since but may need the run.
Andrew Thornton is a regular pilot for this horse and he is likely to make plenty use of him for this drop to 20fl as it normally pays to be handy here.

Capable of winning this but a 1/2pt E/W is the call

THIRSK 4.15 .. MACHINIST 1 pt @ 8/1
Dandy Nicholls again saddles 3 of the remaining 8 runners for this contest and though Machinist has top weight here he looks the best of his Trio.
Cape Vale is likely to make the running in a field of mainly hold up horses, and he had Kiwi Bay behind last May when conceding weight and gets weight from him today.
Adele Mulrennan is worth her 7lb claim and will make them all go, off essentially bottom weight.
Machinist however, should have too much class and though his only previous run here was way back, he was beaten less than 1.25 length in that Class3.
Was rated 12lb higher at his peak and having dropped 7lb since beaten only 3 lengths in last seasons Stewards Cup, he races in this lower Class for only the 3rd time since taking the Ayr Silver Cup, and has been running in Class2 for the most part since.
The 8/1 available looks a value selection owing to 2 uninspiring efforts this season when being apprentice ridden and held up.
With Silvestre de Sousa back in the plate we can expect a stronger show today, and should the rain come his main contender could be Osteopathic Remedy who also handles most going and would bring his stamina into play.

Machinist 1 pt win

Edit 13.40 ... 10/1 easily available S.James & Ladbrokes

plus 10 points

Update 3.30: One for discretion:

THIRSK 4.50 ... DESERT LORD @ 8/1
Why Wi Dud is 7/4 Favourite is beyond me!
He hasn't won a race for the last 3 Years since his 2Yr Old success and though highly tried on many occasions he hasn't exactly looked ready to win and meets an equally Class animal in Desert Lord.
Desert Lord has gone well to place on his 1st run of the season for the last 3 Years since joining this yard, so depending on price could be worth an E/W wager but is available at a better price than the favourite just to place only @ around 2/1 to 5/2 on betfair.
Himself highly tried in Group company returns to Handicaps 17lb below his peak and could easily outclass these if ready to go and the going stays the on the good side.

Up to your discretion if you get involved but worthy of a place bet at the least IMO!
