YORK RACES MAY 15th 2009

YORK 4.20 ... RISING SHADOW 1pt @ 14/1 Generally
Rising Shadow is on a competitive mark and having won fresh in the past his abscence no great concern.
He won the Coral Sprint here a few seasons back off 3lb higher giving River Falcon weight, and gets weight from him today.
He looks a 6fl specialist with all successes at the distance and the rain has come for him as he loves to get the toe in with 4 of his 7 wins all on soft going.
His best effort here was in the Duke Of York Stakes (group 2) on good/soft to Amadeus Wolf in 2007 off 19lb higher than today when with David Baron so is extremelly well treated down to 91 for this Class2.
He has a 7lb pull with former stablemate Skhilling Spirit from their encounter in the Ayr Gold Cup when he was racing on the 'wrong' side for the 1.25 length difference at the line, and with Freddie Tylicki taking off another 5lb receives weight from all but 3 of the field which should be a big help on the forcast going.
Bond City is the other to rate a threat on my ratings having finished in front of the Rising Shadow in the Guisborough Stakes last season but he appears better at 5fl and his stamina will be put to the test even over this easy 6fl.
Baron's Spy drops in trip after being tried over further, but is no forlone hope here off this weight as he had Cheveton giving him 11lb & Everymanforhimself 5.75 length in arrears on the 2 occasions he has won at around this distance.
The 2 other times he has tried this trip was his 1st ever debut run and then when beaten by Capricorn Run who he would be meeting here on 12lb better terms for that 3.25 length deficit.
He has a wide draw however, though that may be negated by the rain and his stamina would be an asset if the going comes up softer than good/soft.
Off 8St 3lb he is worth a 1/2 pt place on betfair if you can get 8/1 or more.
