PONTEFRACT 3.30 PACIFIC PRIDE 2 pt @ 12/1 Gen
Go Go Green who looks the better of the 2 runners from the Brown stable, has track form as a 2 Yr Old and drops into this grade the 1st time this season but is drawn wide.
King Of Swords won from what was a near impossible draw last time at Beverley but is now 6lb higher and though still well below his highest mark of 93 and had looked to be regressing until the cheek pieces were applied, he meets Select Committee on (6lb) worse for 3/4 length, Mr Wolf (16lb) for 8 length and Commander Wish (11lb) worse for 4.5 length from their respective last time encounters and at the weights has to be taken on.
Not impossible he could uphold the form as he has been a revelation since the cheek pieces were introduced but meets a rival at the bottom of the handicap who has also looked to fall from grace in the past 2 seasons.
Select Committee, who no doubt has the advantage of of the 7lb claimer to give him 13lb over King Of Swords from last time, has a similar weight to stable mate Pacific Pride of 8st 5lb, and Interesting Graham Gibbons rides this one against his stablemate.
Pacific Pride has the blinkers on for the 2nd time this year from 4 career runs in them. The 1st time tried in them as a 3Yr Old off a mark 35lb higher than today, he gave 4Yr Old Knot in Wood 11lb and led most the way to the line in the later 2fl part of the race to fail by a neck over 6fl in a Class2 handicap at York.
Pacific Pride just hasn't had his conditions either trip wise or going and runs here 9lb lower than when last making all to win at Beverley with Tangerine Trees on equal weights in arrears (PP gets 12lb today)
Early last season he would have been off top weight in better races than this, and here he is again in a Class 5 off bottom weight against exposed performers, some who haven't progressed to that level in any career run.
Only has Commander Wish below him in the weights and he has previously beaten both Mr Wolf and King Of Swords last August and meets them on better terms than that success and though drawn wider out, from a handicap perspective would rate a danger.
Pacific Pride can take a grip so with plenty pace on around him he's not badly drawn in stall 5 and looks too well handicapped to ignore off this, his lowest ever mark.
